Have you ever arrived somewhere…

and immediately got a weird feeling?

Or maybe you stepped behind the wheel and automatically felt upset BEFORE anyone actually cut you off?!

Or maybe you simply walked downstairs from your living room to your office and felt completely overwhelmed?

Well today, we’re going to teach you how to leverage location based triggers for the good. More so, we’re also going to explain how to try and avoid the negative ones!

So what actually is a location based trigger?

First if you haven’t watched the previous episode, check that out here. This will give you a brief introduction to triggers in general.

So basically a location based trigger is when you move to a different location (either outside or within your home) and something triggers you. This may be in the form of a feeling you have or an action you take regardless of whether it’s positive or negative.

But why does this matter?

Mastering your environment is crucial because it is way more powerful than you realize. It subconsciously takes over if you don’t take it over first (the supermarket example).

So what are some more specific examples?

Well the common one you hear about helps you get to the gym like you planned in the morning. If you simply lay out the clothes the night before then when you see them in the morning, your excuses of not having clean clothes is null and void.

Another example can be how we structure our digital life. Whether we shut down our laptop at night or organize our digital files, the digital space is another “location”

Bonus example (not in the episode)!

I used to battle with road rage a bit until I’ve implemented these strategies and now I feel like I have a great handle on it. One thing I’ve done was put something small in the car to trigger me and put me in a positive state. I’d recognize I have serious responsibility in front of me and accompanied by a few deep breaths, that would be enough to prepare for the inevitable crazies on the road.

This small simple thing could be a rubber band around the stick shift or a post it note over the back up camera. Either way, it’s a meaningless trigger that means a whole lot!
